the Karoo Budgerigar Club therefore honours them

Gert Nel N23

Gert Nel was the first Chairman of the Karoo Budgerigar Club. In 1999 he becomes the first Honoree Life Member of the Club. The last few years Gert Nel was residing at an old age home in Kenhardt, and was he not able to keep budgies, but he always wrote letters to the committee, make recommendations and even suggesting how pairings should be made. Each year his affiliation fees will arrive promptly, with a small donation for the club. He loved his recessive pieds. He never stopped dreaming about building his dream aviary, and how will build up his recessive pied stud. The Administrators report was his favorite reading. He knew everybody’s progress; the achievements of Karoo members gave him lots of joy. Go well Oom Gert. He died the 3 Oct 2011 .

Whilme du Plessis  D88

Whilme du Plessis was well known for his violets. When Oom Whilme showed violets on a show you could be sure he will win the Violet Challenge Certificate. He had a very good stud of other colours and varieties too. In the last couple of years his spangles did well on the show bench, he had a very striking violet spangle that stood out above the rest. Oom Whilme - we know you have your aviary in heaven - keep on breeding.

Jannie Viljoen   V55

Jannie Viljoen, was a person that did not waste words, he always said what was needed to be said in under one minute. He kept a small stud of budgies and did not show much. At one occasion he won Best Novice on Show at the Eastern Cape Area show at Mossel Bay. He was actually more pleased with his Pied that won a first place. He loved his pieds, and if it was a Cobalt Pied even more. He always worked at the administration side when attending shows. He will be sadly missed
